The training is done in 6 and 7 week courses throughout the year.  In both courses you will learn the basic commands that a well mannered dog needs to know, these are sit, wait, lie down, heel, stay, hold it, leave it and come.  All the training is motivation based training using treats to encourage the dog and to reward for good behaviour.  I do not train using force or aggression, it is all very hands off training, which means the you have to work harder, but your puppy enjoys itself.

It is all very easy to push and pull your puppy into position, but your puppy will learn to resist your hands, or wait for you to push it into position.  This is not teaching your puppy properly and your puppy will not enjoy his training.  By guiding your puppy into the position you want, he will have to think for himself and this means not only will he remember it, but he will enjoy the challenge.

I DO NOT under any circumstances, allow choke chains, prong collars or shock collars in my classes, not only because I don't like them, but also because I am an APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) member, and the code of practice does not allow them.  Please do not arrive with one of the above, you WILL be asked to remove it.

The only aids allowed are double action/combi collars, harnesses, clip/buckle collars and headcollars.

My motto is TRAIN WITH YOUR BRAIN AND NOT A CHOKE CHAIN!

This means that in my classes you have to work hard, and be patient, after all I am training you how to train your dog, not training your dog for you!  This is just a basic course, you will only be learning the basics and your puppy will not be fully trained at the end of it!!!!!

You will be expected to do your homework, which is set each week, this helps you progress on the courses.  At the end of all courses, you will have a "FUN" test and a certificate to say you have passed.

A well mannered dog will be a pleasure to live with and a great companion for life, this is the aim of our classes.  We want to set you and your puppy off on the right path, but I am always here to help out with advice and training if you stray from that path.  I am always happy to help with problems and questions from anyone, you don't have to have been to my classes to get my help, please feel free to contact me on manda.smith@talk21.com if you need some help.

ELHAM TRAINING

I run my 1st lot of classes at Elham Village Hall between 5.30 and 6.30pm on Tuesday evenings, (before the EDTC classes, click HERE for more info on EDTC).  This course is 6 weeks long and we hold courses throughout the year, but you will need to book a place, as we have a limit of 8 dogs per course.

To book a place, please e-mail me on:-

 manda.smith@talk21.com

This course is designed for puppies from 12 weeks to approximately 6 months old and we welcome all breeds and owners with all levels of experience.

The main purpose of these classes is to teach puppies how to behave around other dogs, around people and to cope in different situations, as well as to learn basic commands.  The obedience training is kept very simple and we do not expect too much from our puppies, they come to have fun and enjoy their training, therefore we do not want it to be too serious.

This course price is 50 for the 6 weeks and this includes behaviour advice if required, at the end of every class.

If you would like to know more, or would like to come and see what we do, please contact me on:-

STELLING MINNIS TRAINING

My 2nd lot of classes are at Stelling Minnis Village Hall, between 7pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday evenings.  These classes are run for a company called "Pets Corner" and are known as "Sit! training classes.  This course is a 7 week course and again we hold courses throughout the year, but you will need to book a place, as we have a limit of 10 dogs per class.

The course is 59.00 for the 7 weeks and to book a place please call Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun)

This course is designed for puppies from 12 weeks to approx 12 months and we welcome all breeds and owners with all levels of experience.

Again, these classes are designed to teach puppies how to behave around other dogs, around people and to cope in different situations, as well as to learn basic commands.  The obedience training is kept very simple and we do not expect too much from our puppies, they come to have fun and enjoy their training, therefore we do not want it to be too serious.

We have some extra features on this course, the first night is a "no dog" night.  During this night, we will explain the course, the type of training, show all the equipment available and what it is used for, give general advice on owning a puppy and there is also a demonstration on the exercises you will learn.

During the course, you will also have a short talk on nutrition (my assistant is nutrition trained) and be able to see examples of the different types of food available and why they differ so much.  You will also be able to ask questions about anything to do with canine nutrition.

There is also a short talk during the course on fleas and worms, to see all the various medications available, why they differ and when they should be used.  Again, you will have a chance to ask any questions you may about these little devils.

We also offer Micro-chipping, to book for this, please call Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun).

At Stelling Minnis, we offer an Intermediate Course, which is designed for dogs who have attended a puppy course, either mine or at another club and have a little training experience.

In this class, you will learn how to improve what you have learned and to shape the dogs behaviour to take full advantage of what he has learned.  We will teach you the "Finish" on your recalls and extend the time of your stays to a maximum of 2 minutes for both Sit and Down Stay.  The Heelwork will be refined and be more complicated, but the methods used are still all very gentle and the training itself is still motivational training.

There will be a talk and a demonstration on the first night, so this will again be a "dog free" night for you.

This course is 59.00 for the 7 weeks, you will need to book a place by phoning Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun).

We also offer an Advanced Training Course, which are for dogs who have a good knowledge of training, and who want to go on and learn some more difficult exercises.  In this class we aim to improve on the training you have previously done, tidy all your exercises up and teach you 3 new exercises.  These are the "drop recall", "send away" and "A-Recall", the stays also will be extended to 3 minutes for both Sit and Down stay and we will teach the Stand stay.

There will be a talk and a demonstration on the first night, so this will again be a "dog free" night for you.

This course is 59.00 for the 7 weeks, you will need to book a place by phoning Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun).

Finally we offer a competition course, this is for anyone who wants to compete in obedience, or who is already competing, but wants to improve their exercises.

Again we only use gentle methods and motivational training, I DO NOT allow any harsh handling or aggression towards the dogs!

In this class, precision is essential and you must be committed to what you are doing, because obedience is not an easy sport, and it can be very frustrating, but it can also be very rewarding and great fun.

There will be a talk and a demonstration on the first night, so this will again be a "dog free" night for you.

You must book for this course, we do not run it very often and we have a limit of 4 dogs per class, because of the time needed per person.  For more details, contact Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun).

We offer Micro-chipping at all our Stelling Minnis classes, to book for this, please call Stef on 01227 738900 (9am to 6pm mon-sat or 10.30am to 4pm sun).
